You drive down the narrow lane, towards a large Cornish manor house, built on cliffs that slope gently into the sea. There isn't a more welcoming sight. You are on the last leg of your journey, approaching what you know to be the stalwart towers of the Whitsand Bay Hotel. On either side of Finney Gook lane, ramblers, hikers and their families breathe deeply the Cornish air and enjoy the vista of smugglers' caves, circling gulls and fishing boats, stimulating their appetites with the prospect of a Cornish cream tea and the cup that cheers. You may well be looking forward to those yourself.

As you enter the hall and walk through elegant lounges panelled in oak, you get the distinct impression that this was the right choice. Soft light pouring through stained glass windows, and those superb views of the coast out of the great French windows, are what strike you immediately.

Then family portraits along the walls hung together with intriguing collections from Commander Earle's naval escapades begin to add to the unique ambience. This attention to detail runs to every room in the house.

From the cosy beamed lodgings on the second floor, to a score of large family rooms, with en-suite facilities and panoramic sea views.
