The history of the mill

Milling at Trewerry goes back to 1639 when Sir John Arundell, Squire of the nearby Trerice Manor, built a water-mill to grind corn for his Estate.

This was about the time of the English Civil War and Sir John, loyal to King Charles, was besieged in Pendennis Castle for several months. He survived, and the Arundell, and subsequently Acland families lived at the Manor until 1915. The Mill continued to work for another thirty years. Now, just the waterwheel remains, and two mill-stones continue to serve as garden tables.

Above the door are the initials of John and Mary Arundell who built the 17th Mill. The entrance hall is flagged in warm local slate, visibly worn with the passage of time, it leads to our guest lounge in the former mill room, with television, bar and open fire on cool evenings.

Local attractions:
Set in seven acres of tranquil countryside by the River Gannel, Trewerry Mill offers a peaceful base from which to explore Cornwall. Most places in the county are within 45 minutes drive. The dramatic North coast just 4 miles; the gardens and sheltered rivers of the south coast are in easy reach. Both offer good walks and sandy beaches. The historic houses of the Duchy are readily visited; the 'National Trust' now owns Elizabethan Trerice Manor only half a mile away. The interesting city of Truro and the unique Eden Project are both just 20-25 minutes by car.
