| The
Situation |
|
|
This
charming Victorian house stands in a superbly elevated position in
its own extensive grounds with spectacular views downhill to the
wooded Jordan Valley and of the National Trust owned cliff tops.
The gardens have
wide lawns, including a croquet lawn, mature shrubs and majestic
trees.
Resident owners,
Margaret & Graham Crown, have long experience in making their
guests feel welcome and the house itself adds greatly to an
atmosphere of contentment and peace.
Its charm
derives not only from its situation within Boscastle, but also
from its 'character' feel. The interior decor has been carefully
selected to blend with the period of the house and with the
sympathetic introduction of modern comforts.

The
hotel is a 10 minute walk through the old village to the historic
harbour, which dates from the Elizabethan times and remains
unspoilt today.
A short walk away are Forraby Common and the South West Coast
Path, adjoining which is Willapark promontory, 317 feet high and
once an iron age fort.
From this wonderful view point there are dramatic views of the
coastline, Boscastle and its surrounding countryside.
A prominent whitewashed lookout tower marks the entrance to the
quaint harbour, which is overhung by wooded hillsides.
There is a great variety of scenery in North Cornwall,
particularly in the Boscastle area, which is an excellent centre
for Touring.
Nearby are the ruins of Tintagel Castle and the Old Post Office,
whilst further down the coast are the fascinating villages of Port
Isaac and Port Quin.
Just beyond is the Camel Estuary where you may ferry from Rock to
Padstow as John Betjeman did during his Cornish ventures.
A few miles inland is Bodmin Moor with its two famous tors,
Roughtor and Brown Willy.
Many outstanding walks can be taken from the hotel. Beaches at
Trebarwith Strand, Bossiney Cove and Crackington Haven are just a
short drive.
Sea fishing and trout fishing on a local lake are available as is
riding at a local stable or on Bodmin Moor. Bowood Park Golf
Course is only 6 miles away.
The National Trust owns a great deal of land in the region. Two of
Cornwall's most famous country houses, Llanhydrock and Pencarrow,
are not far away.
The village of Castle Botterell in Thomas Hardy's book, 'A Pair of
Blue Eyes' is based upon Boscastle.
Location
This village is situated on the dramatic north coast of Cornwall,
17 miles from the A30 main road.
From the south bound carriageway, the turn off onto to A395 is a
short distance after Launceston.
Bude and Bideford are further up the coast from Boscastle, with
Newquay to the south.
The A39 is the main road that runs along the Cornish north coast.
