On
arriving at the 'Old School' Hotel, tired and tense,
open your car door and you are immediately assailed
by the smell of the sea and the call of the gulls.
Your holiday has begun… Receive a warm welcome from
Louise and her staff and you'll then be shown to
your room, whether it be a charming single, or a
spacious suite, most enjoy a sea or cliff view. Each
room has a unique style from the traditional to the
more contemporary. Decorated in delicate yellows,
vibrant blues or warm earthy terracotta's the rooms
are comfortable and well equipped.
After settling in, why not stretch your legs with
a walk. It could be a ten minute potter around the
unspoilt village taking in the working harbour, the
pottery housed in the old Methodist chapel or the
simple joy of feeling the sand between your toes on
the beach! For those twenty-minute walkers, amble
round to the quaint and quiet Port Gaverne and for
the truly hardy, the two hour hike to Port Quinn
offers some breath-taking views.
On your return, why not indulge in a hot, frothy
cappuccino sat on the benches
overlooking the
harbour. As evening approaches, the delicious aroma
of fresh produce being prepared by Jake our Head
Chef, begins to filter into the restaurant. Join us
in the bar for a pre-dinner drink, then relax on the
sofas in front of the fire to deliberate over the
menu - why not try our house speciality: King
prawns, mussels, clams, shell-on prawns &
langoustines cooked in white wine, garlic, parsley,
mild chilli & lemon juice - deliciously decadent!
The restaurant itself exhibits work by local
artists using a variety of mediums from the fabric
prints to the recycled 'bottle' wine glasses. The
atmosphere is relaxed and informal, lit with tiny
lights and candles with the strains of Billy Holiday
and B.B. King tinkling in the background. All
palates are catered for, for whilst being a
predominately seafood restaurant, we also offer at
least two vegetarian options and meat choices for
our carnivorous (fished out!) diners.
The wine list offers good value with a bottle of
House Dry White at £12. End your evening with a
cappuccino, espresso or night cap then collapse into
bed and the pleasures of crisp, white cotton linen.
