Par has a history steeped in the copper and clay mining industries. Both the Harbour and the Count House were built by Joseph Thomas Treffry at its height, to serve his mines. The Count House is close to both Par Sands (safe, wide sandy beach, backed by dunes, accessible by foot or car) , Spit Beach and the South West Coast Path runs nearby. The local golf course overlooks the sea.
There are a wide variety of local shops inc. a Safeway 1.3km (3/4ml) towards St Blazey.
