We are located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Conservation.

Once the home of the Shipbroker who traded cargoes such as grain, tallow, timber, and china clay in the harbour, the house has a lot of history and has been decorated tastefully with colour and imagination to give a warm welcome. Double and twin en-suite rooms are available.

Private parking is available onsite or in the village free car park. Help with luggage is provided as part of our welcome. Free wireless connection to the Internet is provided. We have ample space for storing bicycles safely and for drying wetsuits.

Wake to the morning song of sea birds, the sight of the busy House Martins chasing insects, kingfishers stopping by or the many butterflies flitting across the meadow.

There are pear trees, plum trees, blackberries, elderberries and sloes growing on our land from which we make homemade wine during Autumn months. A large area is given over to wild flowers and ancient trees which supports natural wildlife.

Views from the Dining Room look out across Pentewan Harbour and Beach providing the perfect compliment to the Ancient Shipbrokers delicious home cooked breakfasts. If you feel like a lazy day why not just sit and relax in our pretty garden or on the deck whilst you decide what to do. Night time brings along different delights, especially when the moon is shining across the sea perfect for those romantic evenings. We see fabulous sunsets to the west over towards The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

We also have a delightful one bedroom traditional stone built Cornish cottage just a few minutes walk away and right in the heart of the village. This can either be used to accommodate those extra guests of big parties on a Bed and Breakfast basis, or as a self-catering cottage. For more information about Horseshoe Cottage just click on the link.

The Coastal Village of "Pentewan" and its History

alt="The ancient shipbrokers - bed and breakfast Pentewan village 1935Pentewan (pen-headland and tewan-sandhills, dunes) is a small coastal village just 3 miles south of St Austell, which is situated at the north eastern corner of the tri-angular "Roseland Peninsular", with St Mawes at the southern tip.

Situated on the eastern coast of the Peninsular, the village of Pentewan has a long sandy beach, safe for swimming and all watersports, with the coastal path easily accessible from either end of the beach. The Pentewan Cycle Trail way terminates in the village and cycle hire is available from March to October.

The village has its own diving school, pub, restaurant, shops, garage and post office, as well as a lovely tea-room in the village square, selling delicious home-made cakes. It is also well served by the local bus service, with a regular service to the neighbouring village of Mevagissey, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell, The Eden Project, Charlstown and Fowey.

Pentewan village 1935Historically, Pentewan was a busy and important harbour for local fishing vessels and cargo ships. The harbour and horse-drawn narrow gage railway, originally built by a local mine owner for the shipping of China Clay, Coal and Timber, was in 1874, rebuilt by engineer John Barraclough Fell and converted to locomotive workings, where it ran for many many years.

The harbour was also home to the "Tall Ships" which tied-up along the harbour walls trading their cargo. In fact the "Ancient Shipbrokers" Bed and Breakfast was for 50 years, home of the Shipbroker trading the cargoes of the Tall Ships.

Today the only signs left of the port is the old quay, now a freshwater haven for numerous ducks, swans and moorhens. Herons frequent the river plucking fresh water fish from the water.
