Reynards Rest is built on the hillside overlooking the coastal
village of Par. Much mentioned in Daphne du Maurier's 'The House
on the Strand', Par is a thriving village situated on St Austell
Bay between the better known ports of Fowey and Charlestown. It
boasts a mainline railway station (direct services to London
Paddington and Penzance among others, as well as a branch line
service to the north coast resort of Newquay), newsagent,
grocery stores, a library and no less than four pubs!
Carol and Doug Scrafton look forward to welcoming you to their
home, which saw duty during World War II as a US army officers'
mess, and later as a care home. Situated near the top of a hill
overlooking Par, there are some breathtaking views of the
surrounding countryside, as well as of sandy Par Beach.
The house is ideally situated for the world-renowned Eden
project, less than 3 miles away. (for more information about the
Eden Project, you could look at: www.eden-project.co.uk).
And there are a large number of other nearby attractions,
including the Lost Gardens of Heligan (one of our favourite
gardens in the whole of Cornwall). One of the National Trust's
special treasures, Lanhydrock House, Trewithen Gardens and a
large number of other historic houses and breathtaking gardens
are all within a short drive.
For the keen walker, the South West Coast Path is but 500 yards
from the house, and the Saints' Way is little further. Other
charming walks are also nearby.
For those wishing to explore Cornwall by car, the north coast
(home to resorts such as Padstow and Rock) is barely twenty
minutes' away. Indeed even Land's End can be reached in just
over the hour.

Our aim is to provide a meal that will not only delight your

producers for the ingredients for our full Cornish breakfast.

bees permitting, we hope soon to be able to offer you honey from
our own hives!
Do come and try them for yourselves!

Directions
BY ROAD - FROM THE A38
From the A38, take the left-hand fork at Dobwalls, on to
theA390. Follow the A390 through Lostwithiel towards St Austell.
Shortly after you have gone over the level crossing at St Blazey,
you will come to a set of traffic lights. Take the left-hand
fork here, on to the A3082 (signposted Fowey). Follow the main
road for about a mile, passing Roselyn Coaches, Kemutec and
Roselyon School (all on the right). When you reach the mini
roundabout, take the left turn and pass the newsagent on your
left, and Pearns Pasties of Par on your right. Shortly
afterwards, there is a right hand turn (between Benjamin Leddy’s
Pasties and the Par Inn). Take this turning and proceed up the
steep hill about a quarter of a mile. You will see a sign for
Mountlea Country Park – and immediately before that sign you
will find the turning into Reynards Rest on your left.
FROM THE A30 (heading south)
Take the A30 past Bodmin. Come off at the A391 St Austell
turning, and follow the signs for St Austell. This will
eventually bring you down the A391 St Austell bypass – which you
will recognise because it goes down a long, fairly steep hill
and over a number of roundabouts. At the end of this road, you
come to a T-junction, signposted right to St Austell. Turn left
at this T-junction, on to the A390 towards Lostwithiel. After
about 300 yards, you come to a roundabout: turn right here
(signposted Fowey) on to the A3082 Par Moor Road. Follow the
road about two miles in to Par, under two bridges and passing
Par Docks on your right. As you enter Par, you will see
Richard’s greengrocery on your right. Ten yards further on, you
will see the Par Inn on your left. Turn left immediately after
the Par Inn, and proceed up the steep hill about a quarter of a
mile. You will see a sign for Mountlea Country Park – and
immediately before that sign you will find the turning into
Reynards Rest on your left.
BY RAIL
There are direct services to Par from London (Paddington) and
other stations. With sufficient notice, we may be able to
arrange to meet guests at Par station (for a small extra
charge). Guests considering coming by train may wish to consult
us in advance about their plans for their stay here, so that we
can offer them advice about public transport/car hire etc.
BY AIR
The nearest airport is Newquay International Airport, with
flights from two London airports (Stansted and Gatwick). Car
hire facilities are available from Newquay Airport - though it
would be wise to book in advance. Similarly, taxi services can

approximately 45 minutes, depending on time of day and road
conditions. |
