Polhilsa Farm is a 350 acre working arable farm
offering bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation;
weddings and special occasions; conference and meeting
facilities in a range of attractively converted barns.
Polhilsa is just a few miles from the Devon/ Cornwall border
making both counties accessible to visitors. Within a short
drive, guests can explore Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor - both areas
of outstanding natural beauty and offering some of the most
breathtaking views. Centrally situated between North and South
coasts, Polhilsa provides an excellent base for viewing the
rugged North Cornish coastline or the quaint fishing villages of
the South Coast. Guests often make their selection of beach on a
daily basis according to the weather!
The market towns of Callington, Liskeard, Launceston and
Tavistock are all close by as is Plymouth with its barbican and
hoe, both steeped with history. Several National Trust
properties and beautiful Gardens may be toured in Devon and
Cornwall. Should the weather prove unkind, a variety of indoor
attractions are located in the area. Polhilsa is also well
situated for a several Golf Clubs in particular the
internationally renowned St. Mellion International which is a
mere 10 minute drive away.
Offering a variety of Bed and Breakfast and self catering
accommodation, Polhilsa is able to meet the majority of peoples
needs. Self catering accommodation ranges from 2 to 8 person
occupancy. Quality graded en-suite Bed and Breakfast
accommodation is available in the form of four individual rooms
based within a converted barn. All rooms are equipped and
furnished to a high specification and each room is able to
accommodate either 3 or 4 persons thus making a variety of
occupancy combinations available! Although not graded, further
rooms are also available in the original farmhouse. These have
shared bathroom facilities and often prove ideal for the larger
family - please enquire direct if you would like further
information regarding this specific accommodation. Self catering
and Bed and Breakfast accommodation can also be mixed thus
providing an ideal base for the gathering of extended families
and larger groups.

A recently converted barn hosts four en-suite rooms each
suitable for single, twin or family occupation.

Polhilsa is also a beautiful, relaxing venue with magnificent
views for weddings and special occasions. The smaller intimate
gathering can be catered for in the barn's function room. A
marquee is available for slightly larger occasions or
alternatively, guests can use the garden area at Polhilsa and
hire in their own marquee. Stunning views over the fishing lakes
and beyond to the rolling hills of the Cornish countryside
provide a beautiful backdrop for an unforgettable occasion. With
no formal packages to choose from, you are able to plan your
wedding or special occasion to your precise requirements with as
much or as little assistance from us as required. Obviously
subject to availability, self catering and bed and breakfast
accommodation may be reserved for guests attending weddings and
special occasions at Polhilsa, thus allowing many of your guests
to remain on site throughout and beyond the celebrations.
The warm, inviting Hospitality Suite at Polhilsa provides a
unique rural environment for conferences and meetings. Once
again, we have no formal structures allowing the conference or
meeting to be tailored to fit concisely with your individual
requirements.

Polhilsa Barns
Conversion of the milking parlour and dairy was completed in the
Spring of 2007. The large stone walled barn now hosts 3 luxury
self catering cottages. Sleeping in total, up to 18 persons this
is an ideal venue for large or extended families and groups as
well as the smaller intimate gathering.
All cottages have access to Broadband and are equipped with TVs
and digi-box; washing machine; dishwasher; cooker; microwave and
fridge/freezer. All bedrooms have either en-suite shower
facilities or use of private bath/shower room immediately
outside of the bedroom.
Bed Linen and towels are all supplied and included in the rental
charge as is any oil and electric used throughout your stay.
Dairy Cottage is the smallest accommodating up to 4 persons. A
twin bedded room with private shower room and en-suite double
bedroom are situated on the Ground Floor. Upstairs supports an
open plan kitchen/diner/lounge. Stunning views over the lakes
can be enjoyed from here.
In the middle is the parlour accommodating up to 6 persons. On
the Ground floor is a kitchen/ diner and separate lounge that
enjoys views extending to Bodmin Moor. Upstairs is an en-suite
twin bedded room and a family room that has a double bed and
captains bed. A private bath/shower room joins this bedroom.

Moey cottage is the largest and will accommodate up to 8 people.
Ground floor accommodation consists of a twin bedded room with
adjoining shower room; an en-suite double bedded room and
en-suite family room hosting a double bed and two singles.
Living accommodation is again open plan and on the first floor.
Plenty of waterfowl activity can be viewed from the lounge with
the rear views also extending to Bodmin moor.
Further self catering accommodation for up to 6 persons is also
available in the form of an annexe to the farmhouse.
Occupation of all self catering accommodation is generally
Saturday to Saturday but alternative days and shorter breaks are
also available on request.
Self catering visitors are also welcome to enjoy breakfast and
dinner in the Farms new restaurant – pre booking necessary.
The Boathouse
Conversion of The Boathouse was completed in the Autumn of
2008.
Situated at the waters edge, this small barn is perfect for
a peaceful relaxing break. Its open plan design allows the
barn to accommodate up to 2 persons although a cot or small
bed can be added for toddlers and babies.
The spacious kitchen is equipped to a high standard with
integrated oven and hob with extractor; microwave;
dishwasher; fridge/freezer and washing machine. Leading off
the kitchen is an open plan dining room/lounge. Enjoy the
fantastic view over the gardens and further to the rolling
hills of the Bodmin moor from the reclining leather suite or
simply partake in a glass of wine and watch the flat screen
TV with Freeview and DVD. Large patio doors open out into
the garden where guests are welcome to enjoy the waterfowl
and wildlife around the lakes.
The galleried bedroom is approached via a staircase from the
kitchen. A small but comfortable bathroom with shower and
bath leads off the bedroom. Guests can watch the wall
mounted flat screen T.V. whilst lying in bed or take in the
moorland and lake views through the large French doors that
open out onto a glass balcony.
Guests are welcome to use the shared garden that also has
BBQ facilities. Plenty of parking is available at the farm.
Prices are available on our tariff page they include bed
linen, electric and oil. One dog is allowed by arrangement.

Other Facilities
WALKING
Plenty of interesting walks may be made in the area. According
to guest’s requirements, these may be short or long distance and
incorporating hills as desired. Walks are constructed with
individual guests to suit their specific requirements.
CYCLING
Guests are welcome to bring their own cycles. Routes are planned
with cyclists as required. Although a little hilly, plenty of
quiet roads in the area will guarantee an enjoyable day out.
FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN
Being a busy working farm, we obviously require parents to
supervise their children. However, the large garden provides
ample space for youngsters to play in. A host of sporting
equipment is available for guests' use, although children
usually dispose of their excess energy through partaking in the
nature walk, feeding the ducks and fish, searching for frogs or
looking for the many other wildlife attractions which can be
found.

Local attractions Nestling
between the rolling hills of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor National
Park, Polhilsa Farm is a 350 acre working farm. Easily
accessible via road, we are approximately a half-hours drive
from Plymouth or ten minutes from the gateway of Cornwall at
Launceston.
Located almost centrally between the North and South Coast,
Polhilsa proves to be an ideal base for visitors. Several
beaches are only a short drive away as are the many National
Trust properties found throughout Devon and Cornwall. The south
cornish fishing harbours of Looe and Polperro are easily
reached, and Tintagel on the north coast is only a little
further afield.
The National Marine Aquarium situated on Plymouth’s historical
barbican is easily accessible as is Cornwall’s fascinating Eden
Project.

An abundance of quiet country walks can be found
in the area and subject to availability, cycles may be hired to
tour the tranquil country lanes. Kit Hill rises prominently only
a couple of miles away. The climb to the top affords superb
far-reaching views across east Cornwall, West Devon and south to
the English Channel. A host of golf clubs are also located
within easy driving distance, together with plenty of
attractions to occupy the family.
The main farming enterprise at Polhilsa is Arable, growing crops
such as Barley, Wheat, Oats, Oilseed Rape and Potatoes. Guests
are often greeted by a patchwork of field’s dependant on the
season. Fields growing corn, stubble or the ploughed fields of
autumn surround lush green grass fields on which sheep can often
be seen grazing

FROM LAUNCESTON
After leaving the A30
at Launceston, take the A388 to Callington. Continue on
this road for approximately 8 miles until reaching
Camelot Kennels which is situated on a crossroads. Turn
right towards Golberdon. Take the first right and
continue to the end where you will find Polhilsa Farm.
FROM PLYMOUTH
After crossing the
Tamar Bridge and passing through the tunnel at Saltash,
take the A388 to Callington. Continue through Callington
and Kelly Bray. Approximately half a mile from Kelly
Bray at the crossroads and Camelot Kennels, turn left to
Golberdon. Take the first right and continue to the end
where you will find Polhilsa Farm.
Both routes are
approximately one hours drive from Exeter.
