Local Towns and Villages

Callington (3 miles) is a small 15thC market town between the Tamar and Lynher rivers, which once stood at the gateway to one of the richest copper mining districts in the world.

Launceston (10 miles) is a quintessentially Cornish market town with its Georgian houses, intricately carved church, narrow streets and market square.  The striking remains of a Norman castle are situated on a high hill in the centre of the town.

Tavistock (10 miles) straddles the fast flowing river Tavy below the Western edge of Dartmoor.  The town's Pannier Market, held every day of the week except Sundays and Mondays, is one of the finest examples in the South West.  Also in the town is The Wharf Arts and Entertainment Centre

Local Attractions

Cotehele, National Trust

Cotehele is a National Trust property in the Tamar Valley, Medieval house with superb collections of textiles, armour and furniture, set in lovely gardens falling steeply down to a historic quay on the River Tamar.

Kit Hill Country Park
Dominant landscape feature in east Cornwall.  Given to the Cornwall County Council by Prince Charles.  Spectacular views across rich farmland to Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, and down the Tamar to the estuary at Plymouth.

Local Countryside

The fringe of Bodmin Moor is only a few miles from Golberdon.  Cornwall's mining heritage can be explored at Minions, where there are also prehistoric remains and the highest pub in Cornwall!  Visit the nearby Cheesewring rock formation for panoramic views of South East Cornwall and Dartmoor.

Dartmoor is only a 30 minute car ride away, across the Tamar.

The Tamar Valley is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

For walkers and cyclists, the Camel Trail from Padstow via Wadebridge to Bodmin follows a disused railway line through beautiful North Cornwall.
