Moorland River |
Directions:
A30 to the Launceston roundabout, 2nd exit signposted
South Petherwin. Follow this
road for 4 miles to
Congdons Shop, straight over at
the crossroads to
Berrio Bridge, cross the
bridge, up the hill and the Middlwood sign is on the left. Take
a little left turn in Middlewood and follow drive around to the
right and park your car.
Locally:
Hillview is situated in a very quiet little hamlet on the edge
of Bodmin Moor. An ideal base for those who enjoy walking in
this remote beautiful region.
The moor is just 2 miles away and includes such famous landmarks
at 'The
Cheesering'.
Many rivers such as the River Lynher (this runs by our back
door), the Delank River and the River Fowey.
Reservoirs and lakes such as
Dozemary Pool,
Colliford Lake and
Siblyback, these are also
excellent for fishing and water sports.
The famous
Jamaic Inn is only a short
drive as is famous moorland tors of
Brown Willy and
Rough Tor.
For more information on Bodmin Moor please see the towns and
villages section clicking on Bodmin Moor.
Hillview has 6 acres of its own grounds backing onto the River
Lynher, guests are quite welcome to wander around and just enjoy
the peace and tranquility.
The ancient town of Launceston is just 7 miles away. Its the
only walled town in the county and dates from the 12th century,
well worth a visit just for its character but there are also
some good shops/restaurants and tea rooms.
There are good pubs close to Hillview, the nearest being The
Racehorse Inn, this is a mile away and has a good restaurant.
The Crows Nest at
Pensilva is also recommended,
this is 4 miles away.
For essential provisions there are small shops nearby.
Touring:
It is just a 10 minute drive to the main A30 with a junction
just west of Launceston. From here, north coast resorts such as
Boscastle,
Tintagel and
Bude are easily accessible.
Cornwall is a beautiful county but quite small, with easy access
onto the A30 a good half of Cornwall can be reached within an
hour's drive, this includes the famous Eden Project which is
about 45 minutes.
If Cornwall is not enough for you, Dartmoor is also within easy
access. The Tavistock route is probably the best, this opens up
the whole moor and even a scenic drive to the city of Plymouth.
