Around and About...

Harbour View has superb views of the bustling Newlyn harbour in the foreground, giving an interesting and endlessly changing picture, extending to St Michael’s Mount, Mounts Bay, and round to the Lizard.

Newlyn is England’s largest fishing port and home of the historic Newlyn painting School. It has a wonderfully friendly community spirit with plenty of colourful characters and pubs and attractions.

West Cornwall is an area of outstanding natural beauty and has many fine sandy beaches and rocky coves. The scenery varies from wooded valleys to wild moorland and rugged cliffs. It is an area rich in history with stone circles and megaliths, and the engine houses of the tin-mining era. It is famous for its art galleries, festivals, craft shops and potteries as well as its splendid sub-tropical gardens.

Local places of interest include St Michael’s Mount, Land’s End, Sennen, St Ives, the Lizard, the Helford River, the Tate Gallery (St Ives), the Minack Theatre (Porthcurno), and many small picturesque villages such as Mousehole and Lamorna just down the road. Penzance is also the departure point for the Isles of Scilly either by boat, helicopter or by air from Land’s End.

  • There are 7 places to eat out locally and many more in Penzance or Mousehole

  • The local Co-op stays open until 10pm (cash machine on site)

  • Parking is available in two local car parks

  • We are on the coastal bus route and the Cornwall footpath/cycle route.

  • Penzance train/bus/coach station is 2 miles away.

How to find us...

Route 1

Approach Penzance and follow the signs to Newlyn via town bypass. Continue across 3 roundabouts. Turn left to Newlyn and continue through wooded valley until you reach Newlyn Crossroads. Continue straight across past the Co-Op on your right, then the fish market on your left, up a slight hill, and Harbour View Guesthouse will be found on the right overlooking the harbour - just past the ‘Smugglers Restaurant’ and before the Red Lion Pub, 400 metres from Newlyn Centre.

Route 2

Approach Penzance and continue into the town (ignoring the signs for Newlyn). Follow Penzance Harbour and the coast and signs West for Newlyn and Mousehole for 2 miles with sea on your left all the time. Approaching Newlyn over a small bridge, bear left at the crossroads, past the Co-Op on your right, then the fish market on your left, up a slight hill, and Harbour View Guesthouse will be found on the right overlooking the harbour - just past the ‘Smugglers Restaurant’ and before the Red Lion Pub, 400 metres from Newlyn Centre.
