Locally:
Galley Cottage is just a few minutes walk from the Harbour, local shops, restaurants and pubs.
The village is dominated by the harbour which at one time was a major source of income for the whole area. Currently it is still a busy fishing port with numerous little boats.
Fishing trips can be enjoyed both around the bay and deep sea.
It is also a popular pastime to fish from the harbour wall which is easily accessible and surprisingly successful the mackerel/pollock/bass and mullet being the common species.
To compliment the fishing trips there is a passenger ferry to Fowey taking in all the local headlands and beaches. Basking sharks and dolphins are regular visitors to the route.

The village itself offers a host of little shops including speciality goods and essential supplies. There is an excellent choice of restaurants/pubs and takeaways readily available.

Within a short drive:
Lost Gardens of Heligan, a very popular destination and well worth a visit.
Beaches and headland walks abound, some of the headlands are quite spectacular.
Just a short drive is Gorran Haven, a little sandy cove offering safe bathing and a real suntrap. There are many other local beaches some of which can be seen on this site.

The nearest major town is St Austell, a 10 minute drive away. This is at present being regenerated and will not reach its full potential for 2010. However there is a new multi screen cinema, swimming baths and basic shopping.
For easily accessible shopping, Asda and Tesco on the St Austell By-pass are recommended.
