Elm
Farm is a smallholding in the West of Cornwall, set in a peaceful
valley close to the rugged Cornish coast. There is an abundance of
birds and wildlife and many beautiful coastal and country walks in
this area. The newly opened coast to coast Mineral Tramway cycle
path goes right past our door, and provides safe cycling for all
ages.
We offer Bed and
Breakfast accommodation, camping and cycle hire, on a working farm
which is also home to sheep, a goat, chickens and a few cattle and
pigs.
Close to the
coastal villages of Portreath and Porthtowan, this is an ideal base
for hikers and birdwatchers, or those who just want to relax in the
handsome Cornish countryside. It is also within easy striking
distance of many of Cornwall's attractions including the famous
Eden Project , Poldark Mine and many more.
You can find more
details about who we are and about the local area, on this site, but
for any further questions (or to ask about reservations!) please
call or email us.

Camping & Caravaning:
|
Our site is spacious, level and a whole
field back from the road. There are
basic facilities - drinking water in the
field and a WC and emptying point at the
farm - however it is an extremely
peaceful location, with a relaxed and
friendly atmosphere. (Many of our
camping guests come back again and
again). Please note: as yet we have no
shower facilities.
The campsite is sheltered at the bottom
of the valley and surrounded by trees.
This means that you are likely to see
lots of birds and other wild life during
your stay.
Hire a cycle and to go to the nearby
beach on the a new cycle track which
runs from Devoran to Portreath right
past the farm.
And if you get fed up of those campsite
meals, we can supply a hearty farmhouse
all day breakfast (24 hours notice
required) and or direct you to excellent
local pubs, restaurants and pasty shops.
Failing that some local take-aways have
been known to deliver to the campsite!

to four people ( excluding under 5s). £1

About the farm
As the name suggests, there's more to Elm Farm than just
tourism. We're also a small working farm, home to sheep, goats,
pigs, chickens and cattle, which you are welcome to come and
meet.
We musn't forget the ever popular Nipper! If you want to know
how many admirers one Jack Russel can gather. Run by husband and
wife team, Peter and Sally Hutchins, Elm Farm provides an
authentic slice of rural Cornish life. If you're trying to get
away from it all, one afternoon watching someone trying to herd
stubborn farm animals might persuade you that the stresses of
the city aren't really quite so bad after all. Mind you, the
kids will love it!
Oh, and in case you were worried, the famous Elm Farm breakfast
does come from the local shops!
So if you want to escape from the usual tourist traps, and
capture some genuine local atmosphere, you really can't do
better!
Local
area:
Hikers, cyclists and
casual walkers will find routes to suit all levels of fitness
and pace. Walk the wild cliffs between Porthtowan and Portreath
and beyond or cycle the historic Mineral Tramways Cycle Track.
Bird watchers and wild life fans will enjoy the abundance of
local wild life including a local barn owl!.
Surfers and swimmers will also enjoy the nearby beaches,
Portreath and Porthtowan where you can hire wet suits, surf
boards and belly boards ( Savage Surf ) . -maybe you can learn
from some of the local champions!
We are within easy reach of the famous
Eden
Project .
In fact most of our guests do visit Eden, and we have yet to
hear of anyone being disappointed!
The impressive
National Maritime Museum
Cornwall is in Falmouth - a lovely place to visit in itself!
There are many other attractions we can direct you to, including
Poldark Mine, The Seal Sanctuary, Goonhilly Earth Satellite
Station, Carn Brea castle, and the Cornish gold centre is just a
mile away.
How
to find us:
|
|
Elm Farm is located in the West of Cornwall,
near the coast to the North of Redruth,
about 6 hours by train from London.
To reach us from the A30, take the Redruth
exit onto a double roundabout.
Take the exit sign posted Porthtowan/North
Country and having passed through North
Country follow this road for approximately 1
½ miles.
This brings you to a T-junction beside a
grass triangle. Turn left here and Elm Farm
is first on the right, less than 1/4 mile
down the road.
