We offer you a private guest-suite with your own entrance into
the Sun Room’s sitting and dining area, leading to the double
bedroom, The Blue Room, with private bathroom and separate loo.
You will have as much privacy as you wish, but John and Jane are
always on hand for a friendly chat or advice on local things to
do and places to go.
The Sun Room, with its dining area overlooking the sea, makes
the perfect place for enjoying our home-cooked evening meals
(including vegetarian). If you fancy dinner for two, candle-lit
or watching the sunset, with a generous complimentary glass of
wine, click on "Carmelin Cuisine" for details.

| Breakfast room and lovely
view |
Kynance Cove |
Breakfast at Carmelin is a lavish offering, which
has received nothing but rave reviews and satisfied
sighs. Jane and John are both (mostly) vegetarian and
simply cannot handle the idea of cooking sausages, bacon
and other fatty things, so we offer the following:
Fresh-baked homemade bread … French baguettes if you
prefer … croissants or pains-chocolats … four different
cereals to chose from … fresh fruit and a compote of
summer fruits … home-made yoghurt … homemade preserves
and marmalade … fruit juice … tea or coffee. This is no mere "continental"
breakfast, but a Carmelin breakfast-time feast which
will set you up for the day. The bread is so good,
incidentally, that several guests have asked if they
could take away what they could not eat!
You will find a warm welcome at Carmelin from Jane and
John Grierson. John works from home, and Jane is a
part-time school secretary, so there is at least one of
us around to see to your needs. You are welcome to bring
your pet too, as we are extremely animal-friendly.
We have a pony and three cats of our own (including two
who moved in from next door as kittens because they
found the proposition so attractive!). Tilly-dog will
welcome you like a long-lost friend, and Hintza, our
large ridgeback is also very friendly.
Most dogs are welcome as long as they are not
cat-chasers, but please talk to us first so we can
discuss your requirements.

| The Blue Room |
Sun room |
The
accommodation we offer is the Sun Room with its own
entrance, sitting and dining area. This leads to the
Blue Room, the double bedroom with colour television and
video, your own en-suite bathroom and a separate private
loo.
The Blue Room has been decorated to reflect the colours of the
sea, which sparkles in the sunshine on a summer's day, or
produces herds of white horses to dance their displays in a
Lizard wind. You can see all this from your bedroom windows, but
the views are even better in the Sun Room, and the same panorama
greets you at the breakfast table. This is the busiest shipping
lane in the world and we can lend you our binoculars to study
some of the fascinating traffic that sails by.
There are no road-traffic noises to disturb you, as Pentreath
Lane is an unmade road, and you will hear no more than the
occasional tractor, cow, chicken or dog.UN-Summer Breaks:
THERE'S MUCH MORE TO THIS PART OF CORNWALL THAN SUMMER
SUN ...
... PROVIDED YOU CAN SEE THE SEA AND THE SKY FROM THE
COMFORT OF YOUR OWN SUITE WHEN THE WEATHER SAYS "STAY
INDOORS".
Your suite at Carmelin overlooks the Western
approaches of the Atlantic with an un-interrupted view
of the sea almost from the southern to the northern
horizon ... and big, big skies.
The view from Carmelin gives you a kaleidoscope of
clouds and colours, with sunsets that will leave you
breathless as you look out to sea. Or draw the blinds
and light the light, relax with a book and a glass of
wine (or a cream tea if you prefer) and wait for Jane
and John to serve your special Carmelin evening meal -
unless you prefer a very short drive to the nearby pub.
The Sun Room, with its huge picture windows, is
double-glazed throughout, with its own welcoming warmth.
And both coastal and inland walks can start right
from your front door, whatever the weather.
How to find us:
If you are walking along the Coast Path, follow the footpath
from Caerthillian Cove up towards the Lizard Village (marked on
a small signpost, and obvious if you look up towards the village
itself, past the large square yellow house). Pass that house and
we are the first bungalow on the left, clearly marked.
|
|
From the Lizard Village, pass the loos on your left. You are now
in Pentreath Lane, which soon becomes an unmade road. Continue
for about 400 yards, through a double bend, and we are the
bungalow, second on the right, clearly marked, with a small
slate chalet in the front garden. There is parking for one car
in the driveway. |

Additional Services
All sorts of extras can be added by arrangement - evening meals,
packed lunches, baggage forwarding, e-mail access, theatre
bookings (you've heard of the Minack Clifftop Theatre? An
experience you will never forget). Anything else you require?
Just ask and we'll see what we can do.
Dining or Eating Out:
We have had enthusiastic reviews of our supper and dinner menus,
even one that described us as the "best restaurant in Cornwall"!
So, for an exclusive setting, a view to die for, personal
service from Jane and John, no hour-long waits in a smoky, noisy
pub, and a price that won't leave you broke, click on
"Carmelin Cuisine".
We also know that, for some of our guests, a visit to the pub,
the chippy or the pasty shop is part of the holiday, so we
shan't be at all offended if you don't choose to eat here. In
that case, you need stroll no further than The Top House pub in
the centre of The Lizard village, The Smugglers chippy, and two
or three cafés, all offering good Cornish fare.
Lunch and teatime appetites can be appeased by some of the best
pubs in England, or perhaps Roskilly's Farmhouse Restaurant -
good home cooking and scrumptious home made ice cream. We'll
give you directions to these places and others.

| Lizard Point |
The Lizard:
The Lizard is England's most southerly point, and, we believe,
one of the most beautiful. The countryside is quite spectacular
with soaring cliffs, soft, sandy beaches, dramatic coves for
which Cornwall is famous, and wide open spaces of heath and
heather. This is a paradise for walkers and wildlife
enthusiasts, with the south west coast path meandering on its
eccentric way from Atlantic coast to English channel just a few
hundred yards from our door.
Carmelin is situated at the end of a quiet farm lane, surrounded
by fields and with the most breathtaking views of the sea. These
can be enjoyed both from your bedroom and from the Sun Room, and
from our lounge/dining room where we serve breakfast in front of
a huge picture window. You are welcome to linger over this as
long as you like, but we find that most folk are eager to go out
and explore this wonderful area as soon as possible.
You only have to walk out of our gate, past the field where Star
the pony grazes and waits hopefully for titbits, and you are on
the footpath to the cove. A five minute stroll will bring you
down the hill to Caerthillian Cove, a tiny rocky inlet from
where you can walk on up to the carn and sit looking out to sea.
Sometimes the waves crash onto the rocks in a spectacular
fashion; at other times the sea is so calm that it seems an
effort for the wavelets to lap the sands, and the silence is so
enveloping that you can almost hear it. A little further west
and you come to the steep steps down to Pentreath Beach - worth
the climb back up!

| Pentreath Beach - Lion
Rock |
Near Pistil Meadow |
This is the beach that we locals tend not to
advertise, where surfers and families alike gather for fun and
relaxation on the sands and rocky pools. Dogs are welcome too,
year round on this beach. From here you can carry on round to
Kynance Cove, one of the most beautiful and most photographed
places in Cornwall, but remarkably still unspoiled. Or, in the
other direction, carry on along the cliff tops, past Old Lizard
Head, to the most southerly point. A choice of cafés offering
good local food tempts you to stop for "croust" - from a simple
saffron bun to the full cream tea - with plenty of opportunity
to walk it all off again afterwards!
Beaches Coves and Walks:
Although we are situated at the "end" of England, there are
countless places to explore from here, both on foot and by bike
or car. We can supply a copy of the local map for you, and you
will find it easy to walk, if you are doing the Coast Path, for
example, to Ruan Minor and Cadgwith, a typical Cornish fishing
village, or (for the super fit) even as far as Mullion or
Coverack.
The cliffs are at their best in early spring when the sweet
smell of gorse floods the valleys and its yellow bloom splashes
the hillsides; or in May when sea pinks carpet the turf with
their dainty pink blooms, bluebells and spring squill form
patches of pale blue in between and Queen Anne's Lace froths in
the hedgerows; June brings the vivid purple of foxgloves and in
summer ………. but you have probably had enough botany lessons for
one sitting anyway.
On a duller day, or if you simply wish to explore further, it is
a short drive to all sorts of local attractions, from lovely old
churches steeped in history, to the high-tech Goonhilly Earth
Satellite Station, and all stops in between! And take time to
explore the many shops and workshops in the Lizard Village,
where you can see serpentine being worked - some of the
varieties of this special rock are found on this peninsula and
nowhere else in the world.
Carmelin: Visitors' Comments
Thanks, Jane and John, for a truly lovely B&B experience.
This is 5 star comfort and hospitality - especially for Casey!
It is good to find hosts so welcoming to pets and people.
Cathy, Dave and “Casey”
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality, delicious supper
and enormous beautiful views. So nice to be able to walk right
from the door, and return to such friendly hosts.
Rachel and John
The lights of Carmelin guided us home from the cliff tops, as
welcoming as shimmering harbour lights to sea-weary sailors. Not
to mention Tilly’s excited efforts to squeeze through the cat
flap! The lights are still beckoning, and we shall return.
Lisa and Hugh
Each time we stay, John and Jane make us feel part of the
family, which makes our break totally enjoyable. Once again,
thanks for making our stay so perfect.
Sharon and Trevor

We’ve been perched on the edge of paradise, surrounded by
