| The
Situation |
|
| The
house is situated on the outskirts of the popular North Coast
resort of Bude, down a wandering country road, made more poignant
because it was the route taken by the Royalist when they marched
on Oliver Cromwell and his army at the famous battle of Stamford
Hill, in the Civil War of the 16th Century.
It is a well-known fact that the Royalist Commander, Sir
Ralph Hopton, spent the night prior to the battle in Cann Orchard
house.
The battle is re-enacted every May by the “Sealed Knot
Society” at the battle site in Stratton – a most remarkable
weekend for both young and old.

| The Accommodation |
|
Cann
Orchard is a lovely old listed farmhouse, that is mentioned in the
Domesday Book.
It is nestled in most beautiful gardens and orchards which
extend to four acres.
Relax in the orchards under apple, pear or plum trees.
Take in the tranquillity of the lake, while you watch the
moorhens and wild ducks in and around its banks or simply bask in
the south-facing gardens, surrounded by camellias, old oak and
chestnut trees.
The
farmhouse has been little disturbed by time.
It is a true escape from the modern day bustle of life, yet
very close to all amenities.
Our home has been lovingly restored and furnished to
provide the utmost in warmth and comfort.
The oak-beamed bedrooms are all centrally-heated, two of
which are en-suite.
There is a log burning stove, heating the comfortable
sitting-room for those cooler evenings.
A
traditional English breakfast is served with vegetarian
alternatives.
