Vault beach:
Just around the headland from Gorran Haven is Vault
Beach. It can be reached by a scenic cliff top walk,
if not a precarious one in places, from Gorran Haven
or by parking at the top of the beach and walking
down to it.
It is quite isolated and little known and because of
this tends to be very quiet.
The beach itself is very wide, about 1 mile in
length and consists in the main of shingle, although
as the tide recedes there is more and more sand.
If you wish to avoid the crowds and just relax in
beautiful surroundings then this is the place for
you.
The sea here is usually very calm being protected by
the 400 feet high Dodman point which is immediately
to the west and a favourite walking destination.
There are some exceptional rock pools both on the
eastern side and on the beach as the tide recedes.
On the far west of the beach there are rocks and
sand which is a favourite with a small number of
nudists, although the beach is so large you would
not notice that they were there.
There are no facililites
Dogs are banned from Easter to October 1st.
Directions:
At Gorran Haven park in the car park. Take the
coastal footpath heading west, it is clearly marked.
Alternatively, just before the car park, turn right,
drive up a steep hill and you will see Lamledra Car
Park on your left. Just walk down the path to the
beach. It is quite steep, but very pleasant with
seats periodically on the way down.
Summary:
A beautiful lonely beach about a mile wide. If you
want to get away from it all, this is recommended.
