Perranporth Beach:
Three miles of flat golden sand backed by high sand
dunes. Arguably one of the best beaches in Europe.
Very popular with surfers, families and sun
worshippers who hide away in the dunes. There is
even a small stream that runs through the beach
which is a magnet for little children with their
bucket and spades and little nets. At the lower end
of the tide there are 3 miles of beach but this is
cut into two in the latter stages of the tide with
the western end forming
Penhale Beach
backed by
Perran Sands.
Facilities:
The beach is more or less in the town with easy
access to shops/restaurants and tea rooms. There is
even a pub on the beach (The Watering Hole).
During high season there are trampolines, volley
ball and ice cream huts on the beach.
Both Penhale and
Perranporth beaches
are on the South West Coastal Path and there are
some wonderful walks through the sand dunes.
Toilets: Yes
Lifeguard service during the summer months
Dogs: Unusual for north coast beaches dogs are
permitted all year. However, the beach is cleaned
daily and there are facilities and instructions for
dog waste.
Parking: Alongside the beach, one above the beach on
the cliff top (steep walk down the hill). One
further park in the town. During August parking can
be a problem in the beach car park.
Directions:
Easy to find - just a few miles west of
Newquay, it
is only a small town with one main street with the
beach leading off.
Summary: A remarkable beach offering an
excellent beach holiday for all the family.
Accommodation in Perranporth is limited and somewhat
stretched during high season.
