Pentewan beach:
Approximately 1 mile from Mevagissey, this is a wide
stretchy of sandy beach with the remains of a
harbour wall on the East side.
This is probably the best beach in the immediate St
Austell area. It is both flat and sandy. It is more
open than many of the St Austell Bay beaches and
surfing can sometimes be good, but this is quite
rare in the summer months.
The beach is privately owned and is backed by a
large caravan park. However, access is permitted
through Pentewan Village, but, be warned, parking in
the village is limited. The village does provide
toilets, a good pub and small shop/cafe.
There are no lifeguard services.
Dogs are banned.
There is the remains of a harbour wall on the east
side of the beach, this is a popular venue for
fishing, bass being the main species with mackerel
and pollock also common. Alongside the wall there is
a further small beach which offers additional
shelter and is popular with the locals.
Directions:
B3273 from Mevagissey. Approx. 1 mile you will see a
garage on your right, turn right and this goes
directly into the village, you will see the car park
on your right and the pub on your left.
Summary:
A spendid beach with good sand quality. Although
there is a large caravan park at the back of the
beach, there is plenty of room and it rarely gets
crowded.
