Cubert Parish lies
on the north coast of Cornwall, 5 miles west of
Newquay.
Cubert is the main village in
the parish but there are several small hamlets, the
largest being Holywell, Treveal and Tresean.
The village is
very pleasant and consists in the main of very nice
residential houses, a few shops and a keen community
spirit.
The shops consist
of a post office/stores, a 2nd general
stores, and a seasonal restaurant. It no longer has
its own pub but there are two nice ones within a
mile, this includes the Smugglers Inn at Tresean and
the 13th century Treguth Inn at Holywell.
The village has a
primary school which has an excellent reputation and
a nursery school. The parish church dates from Saxon
times. There was a Methodist chapel dating from
1765, but this is now under private ownership.
A modern village
hall which is used for a host of different things,
these include, badminton, football practice,
meetings, seasonal pantomime and visiting Doctors
surgery. An active sea angling club.
The nearest beach
is at Holywell Bay, just a few minutes down the
road, a really lovely beach, excellent for surfing
or just lying on the soft sand.
Cubert is also on
the main bus route.
Although a sleepy
little village in the winter, it does get much
busier in the summer months with the influx of
holiday makers. There are very few places to stay
in Cubert itself.
