Beaches and attractions in the Newquay area

Towan Beach
Situated within a stones throw of the town centre.
The most sheltered all Newquay’s beaches and the most suitable for young children.
The sand is very smooth and as the whole beach is tidal is very compact and suitable for ball games
A shallow tidal swimming pool (as seen above) is situated under the Island and very popular with children.
Toilets/refreshments/deck chairs available on the beach front.

Fistral Beach
Probably the most well known of all Newquay’s beaches.
Renowned for its excellent surf, (world championships have been held here).
The sand is of excellent quality, the beach shelves gently except at high water.
Life guard during the summer months.
Parking on the beach - often full.
Toilets/refreshments on the beach.
Lovely walk around the headland (as seen in the distance).

Newquay Porth Beach & Island
Situated on the outskirts of Newquay, rarely gets busy.
Lifeguard patrol during the summer months.
The sand is of excellent quality and shelves very gently, even on high water.
Toilets/parking/pub on the beach.
The views above show the beach at close to high tide, (it never covers all the sand), and also of Porth Island.
There is an excellent easy walk around the island from the beach and can be exhilarating on a rough day.
Fishing for bass/flounder from the rocks

Crantock Beach
Situated just a short drive from Newquay, this is a beautiful beach with both sand dunes and wide-open spaces.
The views above depict just a section of the beach and the sea on a reasonably good surfing day.
Crantock is also the estuary for the small River Gannel with long sandy walks up the river during low water. This is a favourite with children with their shrimp nets as the water in the river is in the main very shallow.

National Trust Parking/toilets on the beach
This is a very large area and never gets busy.
The beach is a short walk from Crantock village, good pubs and essential shopping.

Newquay Harbour

Perran Porth
A short drive from Newquay, Perran Porth is a thriving little community with 3 miles of golden sands.
The views, top left, depicts the length of beach and surfing available.
Top right - the main beach area with car park/toilets/refreshments/pubs/life guard service and local amenities.
Bottom centre - Just a small section of the vast sand dunes along the 3 mile stretch.
The sand like all Newquay beaches is of excellent quality and shelves very gently.
Undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best beach in Cornwall and a favourite with locals.

Watergate Bay
Situated just a short drive along the coast from Newquay, a long stretch of open, gently shelving golden sand.
Because of its exposed location often produces surf when other beaches don’t.
Never gets busy.
Car park/toilets/refreshment on the beach
Life Guard service during the summer months.
