About Liskeard

Liskeard is a busy little market town retaining many old and interesting buildings. These include a Victorian guildhall and clock tower and the ‘Stuart House’ where Charles I stayed in 1644. Market days are held every Monday and Thursday. There is also an excellent leisure centre. Liskeard could be described as being the gateway to both Cornwall and Devon being located as it is close to the border, an ideal location from which to explore both counties.
Locally:
Plymouth city: Just over the River Tamar. Excellent shopping. River trips from the Barbican. Theatre, water park, marine aquarium. (web site can be seen under ‘attractions’ on the front page).
Looe/Polperro: Popular south coast resorts. Many other little bays/headlands between Looe and the Tamar estuary.
Dobwalls: Just outside of Liskeard, a family adventure park offering a range of attractions.
St. Cleer: Close to this quiet little village stands King Doniet’s Stone. The Cornish King died in 875 AD.
Not far from this is the Neolithic burial chamber of ‘Trethevy Quoit’ (c3500BC). Five large granite stones support a massive capstone.
Minions: A picturesque little village well known for its three ancient stone circles called ‘The Hurlers’.
Siblyback Lake Park is close-by. The visitor centre has geological displays and artefacts from a medieval tin mill. Sailing and fishing are available on the lake.
Dartmoor & Bodmin Moor: Both moors are within an easy drive and are equally excellent for walking and wild life.
Trago Mills: A large out-of-town shopping complex, popular with visitor and local alike.
The Fowey River: flows just below Liskeard. Not only offering good salmon fishing but excellent walks through woods. Golitha falls is a favourite area.
Touring
Much of Cornwall can be reached within an hour, the very far west being the exception.
