Magnificent Music Machines is a exhibition where history comes to life, the musical forerunner of computers, performing wonderful music programmed on paper rolls, metal discs and punched cards.

See and hear instruments dating from the Victorian era through to the 1930s; including Belgian Café Organs, Mortier 84 key Orchestrion c. 1925 and DeCap 92 key Jazz Organ c.1938.

The
1927 Ampico Reproducing Grand Piano
The finest Player Pianos, Bechstein-Welte 1927 and the AMPICO with rolls of great
pianists like Rachmaninov and also American pianists of the 1920s and 30s playing jazzy music, giving you the feeling that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers might
suddenly appear. As a complete contrast there is the gentle sound of the Polyphon Disc Musical Box c.1895.

Last but not least, live performances on the Mighty WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ - 693 organ pipes ranging from 16ft tuba to 1/2" piccolo, with Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Chimes, Sleigh Bells, Vibraphone, Drums, Cymbals and sound effects for silent films. Shipped from the factory in the U.S.A. in 1929 to the Regent Cinema, Brighton, where up to the late 40's the organist at the console, raising from the orchestra pit, livened up many an evening's performance during the interval between films.

Magnificent Music Machines is in a tranquil setting by an old mill stream. Paul Corin's father who founded the museum in 1967, was the last miller of St Keyne and Paul himself, has a family background in entertainment as his grandfather, Bransby Williams (1870-1961) was a star of the music hall, famous for his portrayal on stage, film, radio and in the 1950's television, of the characters of Charles Dickens and monologues such as "The Green Eye of the Little God"
Magnificent Music Machines has been recommended by the Daily Telegraph "Cornwall in a week" guide and recently designated one of the 50 best small museums in Britain by the Independent newspaper. The WurliTzer has been featured on BBC Radio 2 "The Organist entertains", BBC1 "Songs of Praise" from Looe, also Thames television's "Wish You Were Here".
